Rage Reviews

Origin: 7/25

It was a good point in history to base a film off of. But please, never make it out like the Americans did everything in the war. Also don’t twist facts for the betterment of entertainment because if it fails, which it did, then it make sth films look sappy. It was nice to see the events in a new light and give us the graphic details of the war. Even down to the details about film crew on Midway was a nice touch.

Story: 6/25

What a terrible excuse for a war film. Why does every American think that they were crucial to winning the war. This is the trouble with by Hollywood films; they say its based off of the true events and then totally blow it out of proportion, focusing only on gunfire and dogfights. What it needed to do was focus on the families and the livelihoods that it has effected. At times it even dragged and had me begging for something meaningful to come along.

I admit that it did have me at the end of my seat at a few points and it even had me interested in Patrick Wilson’s character (Edwin Layton). But even that was due to his acting and the fact that he is based off of a real life character.

Camera/SFX: 12/25

Even with the big budget and the huge focus on plane and ship warfare, it still looked very rusty and even rubber duck looking at times. Some dogfights were great and had me ducking a diving at points, but when the effects make the actors look silly, then you know its going to go wrong. The family scenes were nicely done though, I felt the most emotion and depth in those scenes.

Performance: 5/25

What a bunch of cheesy characters that for some reason think that they are in an ad commercial. You’d think that since they are real life characters then there could be nothing that could go wrong, think again. The writing was bad and I struggled to connect to any of the characters. Well done to Patrick Wilson, who managed to make bad writing good. With a great cast, it was a waste of talent.
