Rage Reviews

Origin: 17/25

Well… It does keep somethings from the first film the same and tried to make it as Dumbo like as possible. I liked the settings and characters overall looks, but apart from that It just doesn’t have anything better than the original. That is the risk when recreating a good film, Dumbos character is lost in visuals and explosions, the  colours are a distraction to what the cute Dumbo is all about. Its a shame because the meaning of Dumbo is there sometimes, its just rushed, having something theatrical have to come along all the time doesn’t make a great film.

Story: 8/25

This is where it lost most things that the original Dumbo had. It lost the heart of what Dumbo was all about. Not forgetting the clunky story arc that seemed to be pointless at times. Don’t get me wrong this is a great film for children, sometimes funny and definitely will fill them with wonder. When Disney try to recreate their most loved animated films they totally lose what made the first so good, they focus on the visuals, which is good, but it just makes it a struggle to watch sometimes.

Camera/SFX: 22/25

I must admit that this film had stunning visuals, Tim Burtons vision was on the mark. Dumbo looked like an innocent elephant with big blue eyes, the settings were beautiful and very imaginative. Some camera shots however don’t seem to fit certain scenes and it loses some of the illusion that it tries so hard to uphold. But with a bad story, the effects just aren’t enough to make it good.

Performance: 20/25

Some good performances from people like Michael Keaton, Eva Green and Colin Farrel, however I just felt no connection with most characters. Due to poorly executed lines and the script wasn’t the best. Overall, this film will wow our children, and that is what some parents just want I get that, but for other people it just leaves wanting to watch the old one again rather than having to watch the new one through.
